#DearGrief2020
Kenzie's Gift is a charity that supports the mental health of young Kiwis and their families facing serious illness or grief.
#DearGrief is a campaign that shares messages to grief, showcasing different people’s relationships with grief and the impact it has had on their lives. The campaign aims to open the conversation and get people talking about grief because when grief is shared, it feels less lonely.
I was commissioned to capture portraits of people who have been through heartbreaking grief for the
#DearGrief2020 exhibition. Each portrait involved a cup of tea and a heartfelt conversation. We spoke about that person's relationship with grief and their journey to end up in front of my camera lens. Each photograph was accompanied by a very honest and intimate letter to grief.
It takes a lot of strength to talk about grief, which was a very confronting and moving experience. I felt honoured to witness and be a part of the process.
